It rained. And rained again. That’s the story of life in Southern Kentucky in 2021. Luckily Highland Stables has both indoor and outdoor space for ceremonies, so it didn’t matter one bit. With the July heat, indoor was the place to be until it cooled down anyway. No one really believes much in old wive’s tales these days, but someone always mentions how “rain on your wedding day means good luck.” If there’s an ounce of truth in that – Josh and Mechelle – I think you will have lots of luck.
Rain or not, Mechelle & Josh had a gorgeous wedding, and the intermittent showers (downpours) didn’t dampen the spirit and beauty of their day one bit. I appreciated their laid-back style and we were able to get some of my favorite wedding images ever!! They’ve been together since a close guestimate of October 2006 when they had their first date. Some relationships just last, and a funny part of this couple’s story is that their first date also included James Perry. He and Josh had a tradition of eating out every Friday night, so they all went to eat together. I assume James gave his stamp of approval, because he was Josh’s best man last weekend.
When I think of this couple, I am always appreciative of the friendship our families have shared for 25+ years. I remember way back in the 90s when Josh hadn’t even met this lovely lady and he was mostly interested in racing four wheelers and finding his way through a new Kentucky high school. His family had moved here from Indiana, but they quickly made Scottsville home with The Tarp Shop and their horse barn. Our families have been friends since then. Fast forward a few years when Billy Joe did dozing work for them and little Jackson Starrett climbed up with him and went for a ride. Mechelle brought Jackson for photos a couple of years ago. She wanted to recreate a neat photo with his dog like the one Josh had as a little boy. We had such fun and Jackson found his way into my heart too.
And now Josh and Mechelle have promised forever. I was honored to photograph your wedding, and I wish you years and years of joy. Life has a way of flying by. So it will feel like tomorrow and you’ll be looking back on this day from 20 years hence. I pray that you always remember how you felt on July 10, 2021, and that your love just deepens as time goes on. Love and blessings, Pat
