Her daughters walked beside her down the aisle past a small gathering of family and friends, and in just a few minutes, Casey and Jonathan were husband and wife.

It was all so simple and elegant at the same time. Casey chose her parents’ farm as her venue. Even though I’ve lived in Scottsville over 26 years, I’d never seen their home and land. I saw immediately why Casey wanted to marry her groom there.   It’s beautiful and just peaceful there.  The unexpected reprieve from summer temps and humidity this week added to the perfect feel of the afternoon. When I had messaged, “Happy Wedding Day!!!” to Casey early Thursday morning, she was worried about the wind. And oh my word, when I stepped outside to see what she was talking about, it felt like a hurricane was coming, minus the rain and clouds.  But late in the afternoon, just at the right time, the wind stilled, almost as if to say, “Happy wedding day.”  It was a happy day.

What added to the perfect feel of the Meador wedding was the joy that surrounded both Casey and Jonathan, and truly every person at their wedding.  I think of “joy” as one step past happiness, because it also pulls in the sweet feeling of contentment. As my time with this new family unfolded, I watched the Hadley and Harper giggle and play with friends.  I watched the bride and groom smile and laugh with their friends and family.   What I saw was joy.  Peace.  Contentment.  I was humbled and touched.

Harper and Hadley.  They are the second half of this new family, and they are beautiful, fun girls.

Harper was posing like nobody’s business.  I had to include one with her “cardigan” because she wanted it made and made up her own moves.

“Is that even a thing?” Hadley asked when I told her she was the cake model.  I’m pretty sure there is such a thing.

Casey and Jonathan, your wedding was one that I won’t forget.  Your joy and love is the foundation that will sustain and build memories for your family as the years roll by.  You are both fantastic human beings, but together you are amazing.  That’s the way it’s supposed to be, and I’m so thankful that you trusted me to capture the day you sealed your commitment to forever.  I wish you joy and contentment all the rest of your days.      Love and blessings,    Pat
