Allison + Brian | A Golden Hour Engagement Session at Barren River State Park

Weddings Engagements

When you combine a beautiful couple and amazing light/location, it’s a photographer’s dream. I’m still obsessing over Allison’s flowy rust colored dress, and over how fun this session was to photograph. Allison and Brian are high school sweethearts and they are about to promise forever in late September. They started dating four years ago, and are so excited for the next chapter of their relationship.

They were willing to do anything I suggested, and it made for an amazing afternoon at Barren River State Park. Sometimes poses can feel goofy while you are doing them, but neither Allison nor Brian hesitated with anything. When we start any session, I begin with teaching some core poses, and then we move into more fun and varied setups. Every couple is different, has height variations, and comfort zones. That’s why no two sessions are alike. And that’s what keeps me excited and reaching for different ideas and locations. Just like with any other session, your engagement photos should reflect your personality, the fun you have together, little traditional things you do, and your style for sure. Allison wanted a water scenery, and what better place than the State Park??

Thankfully the beach wasn’t crowded last Wednesday afternoon, and we were able to walk right up to the shoreline. Allison kicked off her shoes, and dived right into some of my favorite from the session. There were a few folks around, and we heard a few, “Aww – look – how sweet” comments and some “Oh what a beautiful couple” comments too. That’s what I love about just making it real. It’s a part of your memories from the shoot, and those memories will stick with you forever. It’s important to me that my couples enjoy the session because the experience is such a crucial part of how the photos turn out.  And I like joyful photos. Life is short and full of struggles at times; but an engagement is something to celebrate, and to remember forever.

Allison and Brian, I could go on and on about you and your session. But what’s most important was the laughter and happiness I saw between you. That’s one of the important foundations of a lasting relationship. You have to both love and like each other, and I saw comfort, joy, and trust between you. I was blessed to capture this time in your life. Here’s wishing you years of joy and contentment. Love and blessings, Pat
