“I’m afraid it’s going to rain,” Micaela told me as she bit her bottom lip. My heart twisted a little too, because I know how much Micaela values photos. All brides want beautiful pictures to remember their wedding for the ages, but some brides really treasure them. It was the Monday before the White wedding, and we were standing looking out over the most stunning and picturesque creek and fields I’ve ever seen. I had a bride who really wanted beautiful images, a groom who was all about making his bride smile, a breathtaking spot to capture those images, and it was going to rain. I think that both of our hearts sank at the same time.

It rained. Buckets – literally. It came in downpours and dripped off the Edison glass lights like one of those early spring rains, the ones which fill up the lake when it’s been down to winter pool. The guys went around with rake handles pushing up the tent in places because the water was gathering on the low sides of the top. Thank goodness for tents!   Rain poured at times, but it was ok because they had a backup plan. Now it’s part of their wedding story; the one they will tell their children one day. And they will laugh and smile when they tell the story because a monsoon didn’t stop the White wedding.  Rain didn’t dampen the spirit of Tyler and Micaela’s love and happiness on June 8, and their wedding celebration was beautiful.

The rain came in waves, and we did photos between downpours.  We all watched the radar, and when the skies brightened and we had a few minutes, everyone moved like lightening.  Because Tyler and Micaela enjoyed a first look, we had enough buffer in the timeline that we were able to get more than I even had hoped. And the photos were still a photographer’s dream. Micaela lives next to her parents, and the entire place is just amazing for portraits. The creek was flooded, but we were still able to capture photos that I’m proud of and their happiness and love comes through in each one. And even though it rained on her wedding day, Micaela was all smiles and a stunning bride.

Austin, Tyler’s brother, summed it up perfectly during his best man toast to the bride and groom. He said that he had always prayed that his brother would find some one to stand by his side and love him as he deserved. Micaela is that lady for sure; she adores her husband. And when I watched Tyler quietly moving around all day, making sure that things went as smoothly as possible, it made me realize even more that he is the gentleman that she also deserves. And on this their wedding day, both bride and groom were perfect examples of the give and take that a marriage requires. They each had to sacrifice a bit of their own vision of how the day would unfold, but because they both did, their wedding was amazing, and one that I will never forget.

The rings on each side of Micaela’s were her grandmother’s.

At Micaela’s dad and brother first look, her dad said, “Let’s get the picture.”  I wasn’t sure what he meant, but then her mom moved her dress and the results were beautiful.  That’s when I found out her dad had photographed weddings in the past.  That was sweet and also made me a tad nervous.

Tyler asked the DJ to play his mom and dad’s song to celebrate their 25th anniversary.  Congrats to the Mark and Pam!

Micaela and Tyler, my prayer and hope is that you have decades of love, laughter, strength, and happiness. Your love, your ability to adjust and change plans midstream, and your dedication to each other is refreshing. I was honored to capture this day for you. Love and blessings, Pat
