Betsy wanted to do a family session for her mom as a birthday present, and she wanted to have it photographed on the family farm in Halifax. I can’t think of a better present for anyone, especially parents or grandparents. As time goes by and we all gather way more material things than we know what to do with, the most valuable gifts in life remain those that we love. And when sweet grandchildren make their appearance, everything changes. There’s an extra bounce in our steps and we can’t stop smiling when we talk about them.

I remember that my mom had a brag book that she took everywhere and showed off her grandchildren. I haven’t seen any of those around lately, but that doesn’t stop excited grandparents from bragging. GaGa and Pa Myers are no different. I could see the proud smiles and the patience with which they helped Betsy and Justin wrangle sweet and lively Warner and Marshall around. When they told me stories about them, I could hear the love in their voices. There’s just nothing like a grandchild, and to be blessed with two at once, well that’s an extra treat. And Aunt Brook is right there with them; she loves those boys and it shows all the time.

I can’t say enough how important it is to do family pictures. They become the background to house so many memories and share stories. Having them made can be a memory event in itself, because little ones are just who they are. You won’t always get them sitting still and smiling at the camera. It doesn’t matter. Not even a little. What matters is that you are a family and you are on a journey through time together. Families aren’t perfect, and our lives themselves take twists and turns that we aren’t always prepared for. What does matter is that you cherish your time together, and make it a priority. When you look back through your time one day, you will always smile the most about the memories you made with the ones you love.
