Nearly one year ago, on August 4, 2021, Scott proposed to his beautiful lady in front of the pineapple in downtown Charleston. It’s one of their favorite destinations, and I thought it only appropriate that this photo begin their blog. Otherwise, I’d never have been able to choose which photo to use. You see, Emily really has a wonderful eye for photography herself, and they picked such gorgeous locations from the ceremony itself to stunning spots in old Charleston.
When it worked out for me to photograph Emily and Scott’s wedding at Wadmalaw Island in Charleston, SC, I was beside myself. It was a beautiful day, even including the sudden rainstorm that rolled through while Emily’s hair was being done. By wedding time, the rain was forgotten and the sun shone beautifully. It was truly a dream day for me because I’d always wanted to photograph a wedding in Charleston. And to have such a sweet couple and family to photograph made it a plus.
Because we all headed to Charleston a few days before the wedding, I was able to see so many interactions with this new family. As Emily’s mom told me, Scott is definitely perfect for Emily. He adores her boys, and certainly Emily herself. It’s easy to pick up cues when you are around someone for a bit. And what I picked up is how well they are suited for each other and how they work together for the good of their family. They’ve had a big month for sure. They closed on their new home and moved in just one week before heading to Charleston, and soon Scott leaves for the Richmond Police Academy too.
Emily and Scott, I loved photographing your wedding. You had a dream day, and your love for each other is the only thing more beautiful than the location you chose to promise forever. I’ll always have such fond memories of July 16th, and I wish you years and years of love and joy. Blessings to you, Pat
Emily had hair and makeup done at the hotel, and it turned out beautifully.
I always love first looks!! They make the wedding go much smoother and give the bride and groom time to see each other and enjoy a few minutes privately. They aren’t for everyone, but if you are on the fence about doing one, I highly recommend it.
Emily’s boys were so excited about the wedding!!
There were so many options for gorgeous photos. It was hard for me to settle down and make choices. And can you tell how in love this beautiful couple is? They were amazing to work with, and so open to anything I suggested.
OH I LOVE this photo!! We wanted to make sure we grabbed some with the Spanish moss, which really isn’t Spanish moss at all. It’s in the pineapple family, but don’t ask me more than that. I can’t remember what our guide said. What I WILL always remember is the fun we had with this gorgeous wedding!!
Family is always important. While not everyone from Scott and Emily’s families could make the trip to Charleston, they had a great time with the ones who were able to come.
Wedding time. Emily and Scott’s ceremony was simple and beautiful. They read touching vows, exchanged rings, and did a sweet sand ceremony which also included Kellan and Kane. Their officiant brought the sand ceremony items to them and added sweet touches all through out the wedding.
Making it legal.
And celebrating!
The groom’s mom, Karla, made them a delicious and beautiful wedding cake. It was perfect.
And then we headed to four of Emily and Scott’s favorite locations in downtown Charleston. We parked, divided our 45 minutes of time between the locations, and headed out. I have to say that the folks who were downtown, made this such a fun time for us all. They shouted congrats, honked their horns, and wished them well over and over. Several also offered some sweet words of advice to the newlyweds. When we finished, Emily said, “That was fun!” Yes, yes it was. I COMPLETELY agree.
The Charleston Harbor is simply breathtaking. And when you add a bride and groom looking out over it….
They knew they wanted this spot because of the beautiful architecture and flowers.
It was really getting dark when we did these, but they capture the beauty, history, and color that Emily and Scott love about Charleston.
