RaeAnn + John. It’s a small symbol, that +. But it is lifechanging when there are names around it.
The Stafford and Chewning families are thankful for that little +, because it symbolizes that their children how found the one whom their soul loves. I’ve photographed so many weddings over the years, and I’m always blessed to hear the joy in parents’ voices when they know that their son or daughter is choosing to marry someone who is their soulmate. It’s a peace that brings extra happiness not only to the wedding, but to every day thereafter. It’s the true blending of two families who may never have even known each other except that their children fell in love. I saw it all day long, Rae’s new bonus parents’ hugs and a kiss on the cheek, how Amy grabbed John’s arm for pics, and how Ernie laughed while telling that he always said he wanted a six foot son-in-law.
I will always remember the two first looks from the Stafford-Chewning wedding. RaeAnn is beautiful, inside and out, and the two most important men in her life both know it. The love is different, but the pride and joy is the same. I found tears creeping to the edge both times. John told me about her dress when I first arrived at the Glea last Saturday. He told me about how RaeAnn’s “Magic Grandma” had taken an already beautiful dress gifted to Rae by her grandmother’s best friend and reworked it to make it exactly her dream. John hadn’t even seen it yet, but he knew that it was stunning, just like his bride. He was not disappointed, and his reaction at seeing RaeAnn is something any bride would dream of. And I have to mention that incredible father-daughter dance where both Rae and Ernie sported some amazing moves. I think I can speak for everyone there in saying that I WAS IMPRESSED!
Speaking of Rae’s “Magic Grandma,” her work truly was magic. I’ve enjoyed seeing Amy’s posts about her mom’s decorating abilities for years, but seeing her handiwork at her beloved granddaughter’s wedding, was breathtaking. There are some among us who have been gifted with extraordinary abilities, and it’s lovely when they use those talents to make life more beautiful for all of us. Diane Nelson made so many beautiful contributions to this wedding (reworking the dress, the florals including bouquets, and even decorating the cake baked by Rae’s aunt) and it made the day even more sentimental. And to top it off, she directed and helped pull it all together while on a cane due to a recent surgery.
RaeAnn and John, I love that + between your name. Your love has been inspirational and special and we are all cheering for your future. That future is unknown for every person. But when you promise to walk hand in hand together and keep that + between your names, every trial will be easier, every joy sweeter. I wish you miles of safe travels and years of laughter. Love and blessings, Pat
