Chelsea + Adam | A Summer Engagement Session at Barren River Lake

Chelsea and Adam met in high school, and they’ve been together ever since.  Seeing them laugh and talk about the life they are building was the perfect end to my summer engagement sessions. Their joy and willingness to do what ever it took to get these photos makes me even more excited to photograph their upcoming promises to love and cherish forever. The rains of last Monday only gave us a small relief from “wearing the air,” but October is coming, and I’m counting on some sweeter weather for these lovebirds.

Because it’s rained nearly EVERY day this summer, BJ and I made a quick Sunday afternoon run to the Barren River Dam area to make sure I really could do this session there. And when we pulled up there was just an inch or so deep area we would have to walk over to get to my favorite spot on the point. “They are both outdoor people,” I told BJ. “That won’t be a big deal.” Adam is the new extension agent for Allen County, has also aired his own hunting show, River Country Outdoors, on the Pursuit Channel, and I’ve seen a feature of his hunts and food plot work in Strive 2 Thrive Outdoors. For this couple, an inch of water is no big deal at an engagement session. BUT Sunday night and Monday,it rained some more, and more than I realized. When we walked down the steps on Monday evening, my heart dropped. The crossing area to that beautiful point was under SEVERAL (It looked like a foot!) inches of water and the new pool was over forty foot wide!  I guess that’s no big deal unless you are dressed up for an engagement session.

I stood there coming to grips with the fact that the best spot for pictures was now out of the picture. This was the most open and lighted spot, not to mention the prettiest. But I knew that I couldn’t ask them to reschedule, because neither of us had any room in our schedules, and Chelsea drove a couple of hours to get here. Chelsea is a pharmacist and only had a few options for the summer when I also could do them, and those days were long past. Then Adam remembered that he had TWO pair of muck boots in his truck. Muck boots have probably saved lots of days, and they definitely saved this one!! Chelsea took off her cute sandals and put on one pair, and Adam did the same. And I snapped all the way through the “water walk” with a huge smile on my face. I knew that spot on the point would be worth the trouble, and I’m so thankful that Adam had those boots!!

Chelsea and Adam, you were both amazing at this session. I see why you are perfect together, and it goes way beyond the fact that you are a beautiful couple. Your willingness to go the extra distance to make these happen and your fun nature has made this a session I’ll never forget. I can’t wait to photograph your wedding in October!! It will be here before you know it! Love and blessings, Pat Engagement Session, Lake Pictures

This is one of my favorite spots around, and I’m so glad we were able to get this shot.
